2017.11.11 Grads of WYK 1967 celebrating their 50th Year Reunion at their Farewell Dinner held at the Osteria Ristorante Italiano, Holiday Inn, Kowloon, Hong Kong.

Master of Ceremony: Lawrence “Larry” YK YIP

My dear fellow 1967 graduates of Wah Yan College, Kowloon, their spouses and friends:

It has been a wonderful week filled with well planned activities.   We began with a pleasant gathering on November 4th at the Wah Yan College, Kowloon campus where we were welcomed by the Principal and Staff Members.  We then held our Welcome Dinner at the PSRC – Police Sports and Recreation Club where we had plenty of fun.  Many former teachers, including 98 year old Mr. WONG Chin Wah, joined us for supper.  Both Edward TSANG Kwok Keung and I thank you for celebrating our birthday with us on November 4th!

The following day, more than twenty of us, including my wife and me, participated in a sightseeing tour arranged by the Planning Committee.  Thanks to James WAN Koon Ying, Philip CHAN Yum Yan, and Sonny POON Chi Choy, we rediscovered Macau and also got to experience a delightful galloping- gourmet tour  of the Nam Hoi/ Poon Yu/ Shun Tak districts.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank James WAN for buying us a delicious lunch in Macau.  Thank you “Sor Lo”!

On Wednesday night, some of us attended horse-racing at the Jockey Club in Happy Valley and lived up to the motto of “Ma Jil Pow”.  Sonny POON even won big bucks.  Congratulations, Lo Poon!

On Thursday, a group of us swept the streets of Kowloon’s Yau / Tsim / Mong districts to sample local delicacies.  Meanwhile, accompanied by Sonny POON, my wife and I went to the Catholic Cemetery in Happy Valley to pay respect to the late Mr. Francis KONG, our beloved teacher and friend.  We also visited the gravesites of a bunch of Jesuit priests, i.e., Fathers Reid, Foley, Finneran, Kennedy, Moran and Corbally, etc.

Friday turned out to be a lovely sunny day.  A group of us went to the Ocean Park while some took advantage of free admission for Seniors – all those who are 65 or older!  As afternoon approached, we moved on to Lamma Island where Simon MAK Yiu Wo treated us to a spectacular seafood banquet.  Thank you, “Mak Yu”, for the Wine and Dine!

Back in 2004, when WYK celebrated her founding of 80 Years, our Alma Mater had chosen eighty Star persons from among her staff and students for outstanding service to the community.  Five Old Boys from the grads of 1967 actually made this Honour List.  They are, in alphabetical order, Peter FAN Pong Cho, SHIU Sin Por, Herman WONG How Man, Michael YING Li Yuen and Yours Truly, Larry YIP Yick Kwan.  For details, please look up the information in a green book entitled Stars of Number 56.  Why Number 56?  Simply because our school campus is located at No. 56, Waterloo Road.

Fifty years ago, we graduated from Wah Yan College, Kowloon as young and energetic teenagers.  Now, after half a century of adventures, we had earned our retirement.  Please don’t forget to keep on exercising to stay healthy.  At this time, I would like to invite all the members of the Planning Committee to come forward and get recognized.  Thanks to Joseph CC WONG for putting together an impressive slide show.  Please give them all a round of applause!

Finally, many thanks to each and every one of you.  The Golden Anniversary celebration is deemed a success only because you had made the effort to come and participates in the said activities.  Tonight, enjoy this magical moment, have a great time, cherish our friendship and stay in touch!

God bless you all!
