About WYK
2012/7/23
Dear Alumni of WYK,
Good morning. I would like to confirm that the School Sponsoring Body and the School Management Committee have received a letter of resignation from Dr. John Tan as Principal of the school due to family reasons. However we are grateful that he is willing to stay on for another year until August 31, 2013 for the Sponsoring Body to identify his successor. Failing to dissuade the Principal from resigning, the Sponsoring Body, i.e., the Society of Jesus, has accepted his decision with regrets. This was followed by the School Management Committee's reluctant endorsement when we met on 12th June, 2012.
Although another academic year has yet to pass before his departure from our school, I would like to thank John for his determination to improve the quality of teaching and learning as well as character development of students as reflected in the school's major concerns. I believe it is proper to assure our school community that the Sponsoring Body remains appreciative and supportive of John's vision of and commitment to Jesuit education.
The Sponsoring Body will have to begin the recruitment process in this September or October. It is likely that we will consult our stakeholder groups for the recruitment the qualities of the next principal in light of Jesuit education. We are resolved to recruit a principal who can embrace our Jesuit vision while working with the different stakeholder groups to make it a blessed reality in the school community.
Peace,
Fr. Chow
School Supervisor

Simon Au Tak Shing (81) writes, "Clovis Hui (one of my classmates) and I visited Fr Farren at the end of April. We stayed at Dublin for 4 – 5 days. Clovis stayed longer than I.
Fr Farren walked with the walking frame steadily. He could walk a short distance even without the frame.
His voice was strong but memory was not as good as before.
Luckily, he does not feel any discomfort caused by the cancer at the moment."

Dear Wahyanites,
Greetings from The Wah Yan One Family Foundation! We would like to report to you our progress thus far. As at end of March 2012, we had raised $94 million for the Dream of Wah Yan Campaign. Since 2009, more than $32 million has been appropriated to the two Wah Yan Colleges to implement small class teaching, teacher formation and whole person development activities for our young Wahyanites.
Under the new 3-3-4 secondary school curriculum, our Schools need much more resources to provide extra care and support to help our senior form students cope with the requirements of the new public examination, The Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (香港中學文憑). The Foundation is going to appropriate $7.5 million each year to help our Schools sustain our Dream for our young boys in the next five years. Nonetheless this is not enough, because our Schools have estimated that they need around $13 million each year in the coming years.
Mr. Laurence Tam writes, "On Mar 14, 2012, a party celebrating the 85th birthday of Fr Deignan was held at HKU Ricci Hall. I went there with Prof Dominic Lam Man Kit (63 WYHK) to present a birthday gift to Fr Deignan. When we arrived at Ricci Hall, we found that the "Fr Deignan Education Studio (狄恒教室)" was having a study group there with Fr Deignan and students from three schools.
