Wah Yan 90/85 Walkathon

Created: 18 October 2009

From Mr. Laurence Tam in HK:

"Margaret and I arrived at WYK playground just before 9 a.m. The place was already full of people, though not so crowded as the first one held 2 years ago. The color for this walkaton is yellow. All participants put on a yellow T shirt provided by the organizer. Yellow is a striking color, especially under the sun, as it was a gorgeous sunny day. The whole playground seemed to be flittering with shimmering yellow lights as the crowd of people moved around. I had the luck of meeting many of my old friends in the crowds at WYK playground, walking on the way to Tsimshatsui Star Ferry, in the ferry, walking from Wanchai Ferry Pier, through the Central Plaza and up the hill to Wah Yan Hong Kong. The closing ceremony was held at 1 p.m. at the playground of WYHK. That was the second Wah Yan Walkaton I experienced." ........Click here to see more pictures.

From Monty Fong, Co-Chairman of the Fund Raising Committee, Wah Yan One Family Foundation:

We are very pleased to report to you we have received another pledged donation of $400,000 from Mr Ricky Li, WYK70. This gift has enabled us to reach a new height of HK$82.11 million as of July. Taking this opportunity, we enclose herein a letter from Fr Deignan and Fr Chow on our development for reference.

Another First for Wah Yan

Philip LeeIt was announced on June 19 that Philip Lee Shiu Lun (Form 5, 1959~60) had been appointed to be the next lieutenant-governor of Manitoba. He will take office on August 1, 2009.

"For decades, Mr. Lee has played an integral role in Winnipeg’s cultural community and has been widely recognized for his efforts in promoting a positive cultural awareness among Canadians of all ethnic and cultural backgrounds. As such, he is well prepared to assume this prominent role as the Queen’s representative in our province and will bring an exciting dynamic to this office." -- Statement by Manitoba Premier, Gary Doer.

Philip had just organized a mini-reunion of his buddies in Wah Yan, a group called "Cheetahs and Friends", in Toronto from June 17 to June 20. His reminiscences of their school days are worth the long and short hauls of his friends from Singapore, LA, Edmonton and Ottawa. The Go Ahead clip from the Wah Yan International Conference, Toronto, 2002, shows why. Pictures of this gathering and a dinner hosted by Philip can be viewed here.
