Cross Canada coast to coast Day 10, June 9, 2014

Huntsville, Ontario.

Today is a day for resting and recuperating.

Dann is a MD, and went to his clinic early. I was doing iPad stuff and enjoying the view of the lake. (Lake Vernon)

With a light breeze, and a nice warm sun, It showed off the lush green trees, with the water and sky. Sounds of leaves rustling, waves lapping to the lakeshore, birds chirping, insects buzzing around, plus car noises from roads nearby, with no agenda today at all, I felt good.

Because of the breeze and daytime, there is no mosquito to attack me. Thank goodness.

Although my practice was sold 1 year ago, I was still practicing 2 days a week. This Day 10 of my trip is starting to show me what I can look forward to in retirement. May be because I know that the hardest/longest parts of my rides are over. The rest of the trip will be more leisurely.

Well, a very deluxe version of summer vacation cottage living near Algonquin Park. ( I still remember, perhaps 9 years ago, the WYK65ers, went to Algonquin Park for a Rhapsody reunion. That was also very memorable as we went in a convoy of 4 cars from Toronto, and then meeting up with YK/Helen Chan from Ottawa. ) Dann pre-booked his day to leave early. Dan/Lorrie took me for a 2.5 hours boating in their 22' power boat to go around its lake. Then going through narrow channels, we went to two other connecting lakes. The weather was great. We even stopped at the dock of the town, and went to get coffee at Tim Horton. The scenery was great, and the boat ride was enjoyable.

Then came a couple of beers, and a ½ hour soaking at the outdoor hot-tub. With leaves of birch and maple trees like a canopy above, the jets massaging the right places, it was so relaxing.

Dann/Lorrie did BBQ dinner, and we had to go to eat inside a mosquito-netted gazebo.

After dinner, we went for another hour of boating. We were "sailing" into the sunset! That was the first time that I have ever watched a sunset in the middle of a lake. The play of the light by the sunset reflecting on clouds and water was memorable, long after the sun has sunken behind the mountains. The different shapes and altitude of the clouds were fascinating.

The wild-life encounter today was only a beaver swimming by our boat, may be 10 m away. Of course there were some mosquito bites, but much less than I would have expected.

My connection with the Mortons is that Dann is the brother of Joedi. Joedi has been my dear friend for many years, and we think of each other as family. Thank goodness for extended families, I have a very good experience in Huntsville.

Another good day for me.
