In a letter to members of the Wah Yan family in November 1992, Father Coghlan writes,
"......
I am a relative newcomer to Wah Yan, Hong Kong so I didn’t know the older Jesuits, the pillars of Wah Yan, very much. However, I knew Fr. Derek Reid for eleven years in Wah Yan College, Kowloon and for four years here in Wah Yan. I would like to share my impressions of this very good man with you.
I think Fr. Reid was at his best, his most productive in Wah Yan, Kowloon largely because his health was good at the time, and because he was in a position where he could show his ability, confidence and patience. During his second spell in Wah Yan, Hong Kong his health was beginning to deteriorate. However, despite his more obvious success in Wah Yan, Kowloon it must be said that his first love and greatest love was Wah Yan, Hong Kong. He always had a great affection for it.
With just over one week before the 50th Anniversary Reunion, here is the reminder of the first event which is being held at the American Club starting at 5:30 pm on November 8. The whole reunion program and information can be found here and the latest list of attendees can be found here.
The signature event for celebrating our association's 30th anniversary, Gala Dinner & Dance, was successfully held on Saturday October 19th at Sheraton Parkway Toronto North hotel. Over 180 alumni, their family members, former teachers and guests attended. The evening was packed with fun-filled programmes, guests' performances and dancing to 1 am. Click here to see the pictures (special thanks to our joint-school friend Andrew Kwong and other guests/alumni for providing the pictures).
Relishing the Australian title win
Ten months ago after we won the Masters 2 Open Ballroom Standard title our first thought was to reward ourselves for the daily training that we went through in 2012 with a long holiday. Much to the displeasure of our coaches we planned a four-week European holiday in April and May, spending three weeks in Hong Kong to visit my mother so altogether 7 weeks away from dancing.
Realising that we have to defend our hard-won Australian title we promised our coaches to train even harder to consolidate the changes made in the routines of the 5 dances in December and January. In February when the competition re-commenced we felt that we were not familiar with our new dance routines enough to confront our opposition. The month of March came and gone so we decided to hold back any competitions until we return from our holiday.
St. Francis' Canossian College Alumni Association Ontario held its annual dinner at Mandarin Golf and Country Club on Saturday September 28th. A number of joint-school representatives attended including David Wong and Jeff Mah from WYKAAO. Pictures can be viewed here.
