Introduction to the Series “In Memoriam” --- 壬辰年 清明
In celebrating the Golden Jubilee of their graduation (Form 5) from Wah Yan College, Kowloon, the Class of ’61 undertook a project to update a CD originally produced for an earlier reunion in Toronto in 2005. It attempts to include all relevant information and photos about that cohort, from the time they entered Wah Yan, mostly in 1955, up to 2011, culminating in photos of the Gala Dinner in the old school-hall on November 13, 2011, attended by about 48 classmates. One part of the CD is a series of "In Memoriam." It recollects, mainly from the perspective of the Class of '61, the fathers, teachers and schoolmates who passed away. The project is an act of love and remembrance that constitutes a living link with the past and, hopefully, will form a reservoir of collective memories that live on, for the Class of ’61 and all Wahyanites.
It is now uploaded for a wider audience, the readers of WYKAAO. The files on the dearly missed are fuller in content than similar ones uploaded in the past, and a large number of new files have been added. Others will follow.
The series is the work of Wong Hin-shing and Yu Fong-ying (both ’61). The main source of information is the past issues of The Shield, supplemented by other avenues of information, electronic and printed, such as Fr Morrissey, S.J.’s “Jesuits in Hong Kong, South China and Beyond” and a lot of old photos from Mr Laurence Tam. The help of Mr Anthony Ho in lending the magazines and other ways is gratefully acknowledged. A considerable number of teachers, fathers, and classmates have also lent a hand. To them, grateful thanks are also due.

Mr. Laurence Tam writes, "On Mar 14, 2012, a party celebrating the 85th birthday of Fr Deignan was held at HKU Ricci Hall. I went there with Prof Dominic Lam Man Kit (63 WYHK) to present a birthday gift to Fr Deignan. When we arrived at Ricci Hall, we found that the "Fr Deignan Education Studio (狄恒教室)" was having a study group there with Fr Deignan and students from three schools. If there is enough interest from our members who plan to attend the conference, we may organize to charter a tour bus to travel to the event venue (round trip). This will be a shared operation with Wah Yan College (Hong Kong) Ontario Alumni Association. We need firmed commitments before further planning can take place. Please let us know if you are interested in this initiative (bus tour) before April 13th by
It's been two years since the 'Moments in Time' video, which presents a comprehensive history of Wah Yan College Kowloon from inception to the current days in an interesting yet authoritative fashion, was released. If you haven't had a chance to view these videos (in Chinese and English narration respectively) or would like to see them again, click the above images. For a sample of what Wah Yanites had to say about the video, click here.
