WYKAAO Functions
Some of you may have heard about the WYKwinos Group which consists of a number of WYK alumni with a common interest on wines and food pairing. WYKwinos usually hold a monthly meeting with rotating hosts. The host will decide the venue, his selection of wines and dishes that go with them. A report will be published after each gathering (see past reports here).
From time to time, there may be openings in Winos meeting which allows the group to invite guests to join. These openings will be posted on our website. Any WYKAAO member who is interested in attending the up-coming Winos meeting (Feb 18, Friday) please click here to let us know and more details will be provided.
2010 AGM/Dinner was held on Saturday Nov 27 in a Chinese restaurant in Scarborough. Over 80 members and guests attended the fun filled evening with games, latest news and presentations, amid many delicious dishes. A number of first timers showed up for the function which is most encouraging for the association. The night was wrapped up with the showing of a new version of ‘Moments in Time - the History of WYK’ narrated in English. Click here to view the pictures.

On a warm Friday night in October, about 30 alumni, guests and former staff of WYK and WYHK attended a dinner with Fr. Coghlan who was visiting Toronto. Our beloved Father showed his usual charm and warmth by greeting everyone personally throughout the dinner. He joked that he recognized most attendants’ faces and names but not necessarily associating them. It was a long and enjoyable gathering that certainly brought back a lot of memories of days in Wah Yan. We wish Fr. Coghlan all the best and hope he will visit us again soon! (see the pictures here and a short video clip here)

(July 10 at Mon Sheong Court) Our President, David Wong gave a high-level yet interesting talk on 陰陽五行, 天干地支, 面相, 風水等等. The idea is to introduce to the audience the basic concepts and inter-relationships of the topics mentioned above. Basic it may seem, it certainly takes time and brain power to understand the underlying theories. This is meant to be an introductory discussion; more in-depth seminars may be held in the future depending on interests of the members.
David wrapped up the talk after a brief refreshment break; all attendees held on tight to the handouts with their scribbled notes because they know they will have more than food to digest afterwards (see the pictures here). If you are interested in obtaining a soft copy of the notes handed out in the talk, please click here and let us know.
2010 Spring Banquet was successfully held on March 6th. Over 50 alumni, family and guests attended the event. John Kan ('67) gave an informative yet interesting talk on wine and its pairings with Chinese food. Delicious dinner was served after the talk and everyone tried to get a first-hand experience of wine tasting and food pairings after hearing the tips from John (thanks to his hand-picked red and white). All attendees were going home with a tall stemmed wine glass as a souvenir, a few lucky ones with a decanter and a bottle of wine as well.

The first event of 2010 was a net-working dinner in Richmond Hill on Friday, January 08. Sung Yan-Wing (65) gave an overview of how US became a leading economic order and China’s rise to become the next powerful economic order. The importance of the interplay between these two powers surfaced at the recent Copenhagen Climate Change Conference 2009. It was a most informative and interesting talk. Sung Yan-Wing left shortly after 9:15 pm to catch his plane to Hong Kong at mid-night. Click here to view the pictures.
(The Board of Directors welcomes suggestions for future net-working dinner)
